Hello, I'm planning on moving to Toronto in the summer to visit. I plan on renting an apartment for 3 months and simply enjoying the Canadian lifestyle. I understand that it will cost a lot of money in order for me to do this, so I really wanted to get a job there. I'm 18 years old and am a U.S. citizen. How would I go about getting a job in Canada? It's really essential for me to make money while I'm there so any guidence is very much appreciated. Can I simply walk into a small business, like a Starbucks or McDonald's and ask for a job, or is that not permitted? Please, any advice will help.
Thank you,
Jesse

just like a canadian going to the USA to work you need to get a work visa for Canada as well
if your looking for a job at starbucks or macdonalds I would suggest finding yourself room mates as it won't be the rent for one

You can visit for 3 months without a Visa, but if you plan to work you will need one. As the other answerer said, working at McDumpy's or Starbucks won't pay your rent in Toronto or the outlying cities around Toronto.

The Ontario Minimum wage is $8.00 per hour (check link below) my daughter is an assistant manager at a fast food place and she doesn't hire right off the street and I think that you will find that most places in Canada don't hire that way (I could be wrong).
Check into the working holiday makers there is a link below (2nd one) to the Canadian site you will have to check with your government to see if you can apply to the programme. It was a little bit of a struggle to get to the Canadian government site.
Hope this helps you

First of all, you need to get a work visa. You cannot just cross the border and carry on. Even to live here and rent an apartment, you're going to need a Visitors Visa. Go to your local Canadian consulate or their website for more information.
Amen to poster #1. My aunt lives in Toronto sharing an apartment and pays in excess of $1,500 per month in rent....and we're not even talking a nice apartment.

Working at Starbucks or McDonalds won't enable you to make the rent on a Toronto apartment.

If looking for a job look at places THAT ARE HIRING! Ask for an application form, fill it out, and give back the application form and your resume. They may call you for an interview. Not many small businesses hire you when you walk in and ask for a job. The best place to get hired on the spot are at job fairs. There are alot of places hiring for summer jobs too.

Your superb process action is to get your self employment with an corporation who's prepared to sponsor your utility. in the beginning up decrease than a non everlasting workers visa - which i think runs for 6 months at a time and to then prepare on your perminent residency in the process the provincial nominee application, lots of the provinces run them to fill skills shortages of their labour markets. as quickly as this has been executed you would be waiting to prepare for residency on your loved ones decrease than the families visa. they could for sure stay with you in canada contained in the recommend time decrease than a non everlasting place of abode visa - i think of it lasts 3 months. there is not any genuine set time scale because it relies upon on which province you elect for, which occupation and the way long it takes you in looking the appropriate job. From whilst your skill corporation passes on your provincial nominee utility, it quite is rushed with the aid of each now and then in as low as 7 to 9 weeks. i know this to be actual in PEI with particular careers - IT, Aerospace & Bio-technological know-how as an occasion. even nonetheless it takes on universal upto 9 months in maximum circumstances. So if this may be the case for you. you may desire to replace your non everlasting workers visa to final you the appropriate time scale.

no you cant just walk in and work
you will have to apply for a work permit or if The Us and Canada share a working holiday program you can apply for that
or in some cases you can apply for a permit as you enter canada

you need a temporary work visa. you need to be employed with a U.S. based company thats the best way to get it. in other words it means you need to work for a U.S. company in canada. but its better if you start working for a American company here in the U.S. and then your employer can get you that visa.
