Sneak polypro glove liners into your bag at the px. Dont steal'em just hide them from the drill. When outside wear the least you can while you are active as you slow down layer up!!!!! Do not do a road march in polypro you will freeze when you stop!!! On FTX dont bother heating your MRE, use the heater inside your ACUs for warmth. I was at Ft. L Wood from Nov to Feb. a few years back so this comes from trial and error. Out in the cold you burn more calories so......EAT like a pig if you can . One last tip C clean
dont O overexert
L loose layers
D dry
But for all that advise you WILL be COLD and WET no matter what thats what basic is all about.

it will suck. i was in basic in the winter time. damn cold. tho the marching and training will keep you warm. youll get a sleeping bags out in the field. also, the snivel gear issued these days is a lot better than the junk i went to basic with.

later on, i went to SERE in the winter time. now that was cold. i was wishing i was back there at basic.

good luck, you should be fine. they will do what they can to protect you from the elements and if fear you may be getting frostbite or any other kind of cold weather casualty you let your drill know and they will take care of you.

1. You will be running everywhere, which will help you stay warm.
2. if you are downstairs in the old wooden barracks, find the temp sensor and put it in a cup of water so the bottom stays warm, if you are upstairs, just figure you will have to open the window to cool off.
3. Agony, Misery & Heartbreak.

I did my OSUT at Knox 4 years ago, and it didnt get too horribly cold, but I am from Utah, where we have decent winters. You will be fine, all the marching and running and physical training you will do will keep you warm. Plus you will get issued all the right clothing to stay warm. Have fun!

I don't know, but i am sure you'll get issued a lot of cool winter gear that I never got when I went to basic. which was summer time in South Carolina. ....No I am not bitter that I was issued my winter gear from my NG unit 2.5 years later. And then get cool new gear just before I deploy this year.

Man, the army will surely keep you warm, O.K. with all that marching and exercising and stuff. If it is the way it was when I joined the Air Force, you just turn yourself over to them and they think of everything you need. God bless, and good luck, ace.

i went to basic at knoc in 1998 winter time, it will be tough and challenge you, but you and the people you are there with will make sure you all help each other to make it through with no problems. as far a cold, you will be issued all of the latest and greatest gear, like goretex, and thisulate among many other things.

i wouldn't listen to hillbilly, he sounds like his name.

my entry date in the army was 2jan66. i did my basic at c-17-5 in fort knox. if you remember elvis, that was his company way back when. it was colder in kentucky than in detroit where i grew up. that winter it got down to the 15-20 below range. we had butt cans in the barracks then, our furnace went out and the water froze in the cans.

if you are in the old two story barracks, and they haven't figured out a way to evenly distribute heat, you will freeze down and roast up. we had a meningitis outbreak that winter, and used sneeze sheets and had to keep the windows half open by day, and one quarter open at night. we were issiued three blankets, and we used them all. we slept in our longjohns, and when it got really cold, fatigues too.

you have my email address, i could tell you more, if you are really interested. check the weather almanac for that area to see the local temps for the last several years.

You will be ok.
Don't listen to the AF guy, they do PT in the gym if it rains, and if its cold they don't go outside.

And winter in Kentucky can't be too damn cold anyway.
Spent the winter in AIT at Ft Gordon and it was just a little rainy and windy.
