ok, so i have dsl. My proposed download speed should be at 3000Kbps. but when i log on to my modem, it shows this. it constantly changes.

CONNECTED
2816 / 640 Kbps

why does this change so much???

I have qwest dsl.

could they be limiting my download rate??

You share download bandwidth with a lot of other people. When they're downloading the same time as you are, your speed will decrease.

If you read your contract it will tell you that your maximum download rate is 3000Kbps, but this may change according to the traffic using the network at any given time. So if your speed slows down then too many people are connected to your ISP at the same time you are.

the reason for the fluctuation of download speed is primarily due to internet traffic conjuction and rate of change of traffic load on the server.

I would also like to inform you the reason for the change in download speed and upload speed is that what type of broadband connection you are using.

whether it is a DSL connection or ADSL connection.

In DSL connection : Download speed = Upload speed
& In ADSL connection : Download speed > Upload speed

DSL is garbage they dont gaurantee a steady speed only a pulse speed. my old DSL stated that they only gauranteed a 56k connection speed.
go to cable if available.
