To believe that the WORD OF GOD ( THE BIBLE ) is true or to believe that the WORD OF GOD ( THE BIBLE ) is just a fable.
If it's true than you have to suffer the consequences for all eternity. If it's just a fable all you lost was the time on earth believing and living it and there is nothing else. You choose!!!!!

Belief has to be more than an insurance policy. You either believe in God, and His love, or you don't. You can't force yourself to believe either way. I can't see how anyone could not believe, but it is their right to do so. Both Bible and government give you the right to NOT believe.

I consider neither risky, as the consequences of believing or not are the same: Nothing. Nada. Zip.

Is there some virus going round that inserts questions marks into text? Seems to be happening a lot today.

The reason that fear tactic was put in the Bible, was for that very reason. Why not scare people into being part of your religion. Ancient gods tended to scare people into worshiping them. People in ancient times had no technology and little knowledge, so they could easily be scared, that some disaster would happen, if they did not appease the gods.

You haven't taken all the factors into account. What happens if you worship the wrong God. There are thousands of different types of deities which is the right one?

Oh and by the way it is really annoying when people capitalise words in the sentence.

This sounds more like preaching than a question. The bible was written to control the minds and body of the uneducated masses. You don't have the only religion in the world. There are many others. What you say is little more than scare tactics. Sorry, I don't buy it. Dead is dead.

Actually to believe the "Word of God" is the Bible is anti-Biblical, where it says specifically and clearly that the Word of God is Christ. Don't mistake the finger that points to the sky, for all that heavenly Glory.

Um...ok then...I really do not care what'll happen to me after I die, if you're right, ok then, if your God is really as loving as you say he is, then I'd probably go to the Good Place 'cause I'm a decent person (at least I like to think of myself as one) if I'm right, then I get blinked out of existence, no big deal. If we're both wrong, looks like we're both screwed then eh? Why do you always say Christian vs. atheism? There's other religions out there too you know....

I'll answer your question if you answer mine!
If god is all powerful could he make a rock that even god can't lift?!
Surely you should be worrying in case one of the other 15 thousand religions are right and yours is wrong.
I'd love to see your smug face when Allah or the spaghetti god monster opens them pearly gates!

How would you ever know the risks involved? You wont know until you're dead. So, what do you measure "risk" by while you're here on earth? If I were you, I'd error on the side of THE FABLE. If you're wrong, then trust God to forgive you and say that you were decived by satan. If you're right, then you die and never know it.

It's more risky to actually question your choice of belief system. You may find out that you are wrong.
Question everything and prove the facts to yourself.
By the way, CL, many of us spend years asking ourselves just that question, do research and study, and come to educated choices.
