Spreadsheets are great and have an unlimited number of uses.

Here, I keep our mailing list in an Excel datafile.

While caring for my Mom, I setup an Excel file to track her doctor and hospital visits, date, provider, description of purpose of visit, charge, what Medicare paid, what her supplemental insurance paid, how much she paid out of pocket, etc.

In my volunteer work, with our children's Christmas party, for example, I keep track of the kids, age, sex, gift they received last year (so as not to duplicate), if the child is a grandchild, the name of the sponsoring fireman, etc.

These are small example of home use. A business would use Excel to track customers, what they ordered, when last ordered, any amount due, etc.

If you just pass a course on spreadsheets, you must have created a spreadsheet in class - didn't that help you any?

Spreadsheets are good to use for working with money and numbers. I'm an accounting major in college and use spreadsheets frequently to write up invoices, inventory data, balance sheets, cash flows sheets, etc. Its definitely a handy business tool.

Spreadsheets are good for organizing information in columns that use math. An example would be your monthly income and expenses. Put all your expenses in one column, your income in another, then in cells below those, total each one, calculate the differences and create a 3D chart for visualizing the results.
