Tuesday night I passed out at work, and apparently stopped breathing. Amongst other things, the EMT pushed VERY hard and shook my upper chest (slightly above, and in between my breasts).

It is VERY sore, and seems swollen.

Generally, how long will this pain last, and will it bruise? How long would it take for the bruise to appear - or would it have already?

Maybe it's not as obvious as I thought -- but I did go see a doctor. My question stated that the EMT worked on me...
They took me to the emergency room of course.

Wow you sound lucky to have come out of that one. Bruises should go down within a week. Ice may help withe the pain. Heat will just increase the inflammation. Hope you feel better soon.

Your main question is what caused you to stop breathing. You need to get a complete medical examination to find out what is wrong with you. And if you were going to have a bruise you would have one already. Do not put off a medical examination . Next time you might not be so lucky.
