I posted CAPITALISE for irony.

The same reason your post capitalized CAPITALISE, it is used for emphasis.

For example:

You will live if you do not pet that alligator with the razor sharp teeth

You will live if you DO NOT PET the ALLIGATOR with the RAZOR SHARP TEETH.

Annoying? Possibly, though capitalizing may actually save someones life.

In the NASB translation of the Bible the New Testament uses capitalization for cross-references to the Old Testament.

Luke 10:27 And he answered and said, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
Luke 10:28 And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS, AND YOU WILL LIVE."

Some people accidentally hit the CAPS LOCK key randomly when typing a response or forget to turn it off.

I do it to emphasize certain words, just as you, apparently, wanted to emphasize a word, too. If there were a way to bold or italicize for emphasis, I'd use it, but I don't know of a way to do this in this setting.

BTW, I ask your forgiveness if I'm one of the folks who are annoying you. My purpose is only to provide an opinion or give a reason for my response.

Emphasizing is an old habit and capitalizing words is a way of getting attention. But then, some may mistake it for 'shouting'.

CL, that's a hoot. You obviously haven't spent more than 10 seconds on YA.

Only insecure people type in all caps. They have no point to make, but at least they can stand out that way.

Perhaps to make a POINT, as if
SHOUTING a HINT that you maybe overlooked.

Eg: Bible Translators do it in Epistle Dedicatory:
The Translators of the Bible wish
Grace, Mercy, and Peace,
through JESUS CHRIST our Lord.

POINT: It's thru J-->C, not thru CJ(reverse).
Many say CJ, which is to err, and to suffer.
All who will live godly in CJ shall SUFFER.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Because they are yelling. They think if they yell we'll "hear" them better of something. It's a way of saying "listen to me" "I know it all!".

They worry that without it, people might not take their arguments seriously.

Working well, isn't it?

You could replace "religious" with "atheist". Then the question would make sense, since atheists are the screamers and throat-shovers and attention wh*res.
