i would take her to the vet right away. you don't want to mess around with her health. who knows if she has an infected tooth or some other health problem behind her behavior. but at age 14 i would get her looked at asap.

We have a 2 year old cat that does the same thing. He still eats but for some reason he likes to play with his food. We've gotten him a ton of toys to keep him occupied, and he likes the toys, but he still likes to play with his food. So I gave up on trying to coax him not to do it. I'm a little irritated by it because now I have to move the refrigerator more often to clean the food that he plays with out from under it. He smacks the piece of food around the kitchen until it inevitably ends up under the fridge.

Hi there, Sound like old age :-p my cat is the same. She pics it up and drops it on the floor. I tent to give her a mixture of both meat and biscuts.
Try putting it a bit in at a time,
Or it could be that she needs worming? or somthing like that.
Also you could try giving her some chicken or tuna and see if she will eat that? If she persists on no to eat take her to the vets. or ring them for advise. It could be that she has a problum digesting the food or swallowing it.

Your cat is probably getting bored with your cat food that you are giving her. I know you have been giving her alot of different foods, but try different brands of food instead. My cat loves the wet food called Fancy Feast, but sometimes she only eats the gravy so we give her chopped up. Cat;s tend to get nutrients whether you give them wet or dry food so try both until you finally know what brand of food she likes. Then make sure to stick with it
GOOD LUCK for you and your cat!

One of our cats was doing that. We took him to the vets and discovered he needed 6 teeth extracting, Despite now having several teeth missing he seemed to be able to eat much better after that. It's hard to know with cats if they're experiencing dental problems as unlike humans they're unable to let us know.
The vets should be able to help.
Good luck and hope your cat is managing to eat again soon.

Maybe she has toothache or an abcess, have you noticed her drooling? It's difficult to advise, with her being a mature ol' thing. Have you tried raw egg in milk, just to keep her strength up? Tuna is a good idea as cats love the smell as much as the fishy meal.
My cat always meows for food, nibbles a bit and goes out ...when she returns she's meaowin for more because the dog had eaten it in her abscence.
