Extraterrestrial life, when discovered, will first be denied by the faithful...then, it will be declared demonic...then some obscure verse in some book of the Bible will be found to have predicted it all along.
Little in religion ever changes.

How could the existence of life elsewhere put the idea of God to rest...if he created it here he could have created it anywhere or ever everywhere.
If you think the death of religion would cause people to live in peace then you need to take another look around you...people not religions start conflicts...some may use religion to draw others into the conflict and increase its scope, but the root cause of all conflict rests with the selfish desires of humans not with religion.
No, I don't think "religion" is good for this planet...I think whenever we seek to understand the mind of God by asking others for a set of rules and conditions, we open the door to the kind of exploitation I mentioned above. What I think would be good for this planet is if everyone accepted God's instructions for dealing with him and with others...love God and love one another...only when we can ALL practice that in ALL things could there be any hope of peace on this planet!

Some people are sheep... so my prediction is there will always be followers of religious non-sense. Religion is the poor persons insurance policy. Life is very difficult without money so if they believe then maybe life would be better when they die. Also it is the wealthy persons conscious because in order to be wealthy one has to step on others so the wealthy hope they will be forgiven to maintain their good life in the afterlife.

I think you should think more about God than religion, and try to separate the two.
My view? Before anything was anything, it was a thought in someones mind. And before the big bang, who was thinking about a big bang?
If you are looking at news reports of religious conflicts, you are formulating your opinion of religion from a very ignorant source.
Look in yourself to find God.

I don't think it will be put to rest, but I think the discovery of life outside our own solar system - or maybe even just outside of Earth - would be a significant blow to religion.
Yes, religious people honestly do think that religion is good for this planet. But most of them just haven't explored any other options aside from religion, so they simply don't know any better.
For those of you who used to be nonreligious and are now religious, I said MOST of them, not ALL of them, so please refrain from correcting me. I know there are some of you out there.

I think religion stinks,
It may have some benefit for people who have nothing else, but thats about it. I particulary despise all the people (mostly men) who "go into" religion in order to satisfy their sexual perversions.
It is so bloody obvious that there is no "god" or prophet or whatever, the problem is what else can we offer these people?

If life is discovered in other parts of the universe, religions will try to incorporate it into their belief systems. In other words, they will evolve (if you'll pardon the expression).

I don't get you. why would the discovery of other life affect our religion? personally, i have never seen any reason why God couldn't/wouldn't have created any other life out there.

The bible explicitly states that we are not the only life form 'out there.'
Extra terrestial beings are described, and named in the bible. I won't go into those names for in your denial of the truth that would be an offense to you.
There are many entities spoken of, and I'm sure there are many other types not mentioned.

Everyone blames religion. it is not religion. It is man. Man kills man not god. Religion is just another excuse like football, politics, territory, oil etc. Best we just accept it ... we are a bit 5hit when it comes to it. As a species it is in our nature to destroy ourselves.
