Well, I've never liked the top 35 system.
Here's what needs to be done. I like the championship provisional, and the new rule they put in this season to limit it's use makes it a fair provision.
So taking the champion's provisional in consideration, here's what needs to be done. The most recent champion is guaranteed a spot. Every other car that wants to race has to get in on time. That way, we see the fastest cars on race day, not the ones with the most money in them.
Once the chase rolls around, lock in your top 12 guys for the last 10 races.
This might not help the parity, as obviously the teams that have more money in their cars are still going to dominant qualifying for the most part. But it will make it a bit fairer.
But this likely isn't going to happen. If NASCAR insists on keeping the top 35, then all the go-or-go-home guys need to qualify consecutively in the order. Ex) everyone locked in top 35 draws from qualifying spots 1-35, and the remainder qualifies at the conclusion of the session. That way, the last 7 spots are more fairly contested.

Owners points?
Don't they mean Sponsors points.
The high dollar sponsors want to be seen and if they were to miss a race they would lose a ton.So the right person and the right "meeting" and boom the top 35 which guaretees certain teams a spot in every event.
Dump this crap and the chase.Let the fastest 43 run.

I think they should have two heat races. Say 50 cars show up. Split them into two some what equal heat races, one quarter the Length of the actual race, with the top 20 advancing to the main. Then shorten the actual race in half. The races are too long and get boring anyways. But if the race was suppose to be 500 miles it would be two 125 mile heat races, and a 250 mile main. That would still add up to 500 mile of racing for the fans to watch and I bet it would be more interesting. You can line them up by driver points, odds in heat one, evens in heat two. In case of a tie, well there are so many ways to settle a tie. # of starts, highest previous finish, # of wins, alphabetical by drivers mother's maiden name, it just doesn't matter.

I don't think there should be ANY automatic spots. Go fast or go home. The only time there should be a field set by points is when the weather causes qualifying to be cancelled. This top 35 they use now is totally ridiculous.

well i totaly agree for the most part with a few acception
1) top 15 automatically are in the race so that we dont have people on the bubble of the chase at like 14th place sitting at home
2) the person who won the race the year before gets in automaticly
3) the person who won the bucsh race the night before gets in automatticly
4 ) a past champion of a whole season gets in automaticaly
this mean we have 15+1+1+the past champions automaticaly get in
that leaves around 20 - 25 spots for people to qualify

I've always been a fan of the fastest 43 race and I'm not a fan of past champions provisional. There should be no guaranteed spots.

Fastest 43 race would be interesting, but Nascar won't allow it because Jr. or Montoya or Stewart could go home.

this isn't your local Sat night short track, where bubba and Leroy lucked up and got a car together that would pass inspection.
It takes millions to get teams built and funded , and to travel the country, i totally believe the good teams should be guaranteed a spot, or they would just miss selected events because of the distance and expense of transporting entire teams across the country, for a 3 hour event.

I tend to agree.I feel that all the drivers should have to qualify on speed. as it is, if someone's in the top 35, it doesn't really matter where they qualify.
