Is it true that one can use Hydrogen Peroxide to clean the ears from accumulated ear wax? What is the procedure & also VERY important! This method won't damage the eardrum will it?

Has anyone tried this before? Thank you for answering.

As long as the ear drum is intact and the person does not have p-e tubes, 3% hydrogen peroxide is very safe to use in the ear canal. Generally, apply several drops into the canal and have the person lie on his or her side for a few minutes, then flush out the wax using tepid water and a bulb ear syringe.

Peroxide works best on persons with dark wax. If you have lighter wax it is less effective. For this, I instilled Colace (I know, it's a stool softener, but it WORKS!) The light colored wax is more resistant to lavage, and it may take repeated attempts over a few days to successfully wash it out.

Never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow!

I have used peroxide to clean my ears before, and it does work. All you have to do is pour a small amount, maybe a capful or two, into your ear. You will hear it fizzing as it cleans the ear canal out. Leave it in the ear for only about a minute. then tilt your head over to let it drain out. It will not harm your ear drum. I think it gets your ears clean, it's just a little uncomfortable at first, because you can hear the fizzing in your ear really loud.

I have done it all my life and never had any problems. I think its safer than sticking Q-tips in your ear.

It's a bad idea, if it gets behind your eardrum it will hurt like crazy. Buy one of those ear cleaning kits from the grocery store.
