hi just got myself a new laptop and gone wireless and also using vista, my broadband is with bt. however my download speeds have gone down to maybe 7 or 8 kb where before i was getting over 200 at times. i have tried different port nos but unsure what all that really means i also tried u torrent and was equally slow is it because i am wireless ? will i have to mess about with settings could anybody please help ? i use zone alarm security suite but dont think its that thankyou jezzyb

No its not because you are wireless.
Wireless is slower than wired, but that wont affect your internet speeds.
I dont know how to change ports or even what ports bitlord uses, but in utorrent there is a speedtest section and it tells you what port it is using, and lets you test it. if it is green and good, then I have no idea why your torrents have slowed down. but if it says that the port isnt open go into your router and open those ports for use with udp and tcp protocol. and that should fix everything. If you need more help, just search google for bittorrent and ports. should clear everything up.

If you Google Portforwarding it will shew you in detail how to set the correct port for your router. I tried but gave up. A bit too complicated for me. Not being particularly clever with Comps I was afraid of mucking something up. But have a look
You can get to Portforward if you do the speed test thing on utorrent

Unless you have a more expensive wireless card, then the wireless speed will always be slower. Now i see your using torrents, and it just might be a slow torrent.
