I want to go to Bass Pro in Orlando FL tomorrow and buy a rifle.

It is a long trip so I want to be able to walk away with the rifle the same day. I have never bought a gun before and I am in my 20's.

Will there be a waiting period?

You will fill out a form 4473 and the information is transfered to the FBI NICS system where a background check is performed. It takes about 5 minutes. Your dealer will either receive a Proceed or a Delay. If you get a Proceed you will get your gun. If it's delayed it could take 3 days. If it's denied you can contest it with the FBI.
Be sure to put your SSN on the form. Your SSN is optional but it is the best way NICS has to seperate you from the bad guys.

The fee is more up to the dealer you're using. They will do a quick background check but it normally doesn't require a wait, it's pretty quick.

Only pistols have a waiting period. Make sure you have proper ID with you.
