Hello Loulou,
Well we are Muslims and proud of it. Our religion when practiced correctly teach us to respect God and His creations. Regardless of the criticisms of people in general we as Muslims have a duty to try and educate people of all faiths about the real Islam. The one that teaches respect of the individual and tolerance and patience in the face of adversity. Without Islam as my religion I will be lost. My faith has guided me on the right path so far and I hope and pray God will always keep me on the track that will lead me to Paradise.

I am interested why you think the hijackers committed "shirk." I've been told (on Y/A) that shirk means believing that there are other spiritual beings with power like Allah.
As far as what I think about Islam, I find it interesting, but I don't believe it myself. I believe the Muslims who tell me that terrorists are not true Muslims. I know that a lot of verses that alarm non-Muslim people in the Koran have a context that must be understood for the verse to be interpreted correctly, and that the general public doesn't understand those contexts. Nevertheless, I also understand why some of those verses alarm people and make them think Islam is violent.
It would be nice to see a detailed discussion of those verses in the public realm and for Muslims generally speaking to unite against terrorists. I know that some already have, but for it to occur throughout the religion would really open other people's eyes.

I consider Islam to be a backward tradition of ignorance and fear that fosters extremism and promotes the indoctrination of innocent children. Like most religions.
Sure, terrorists are misinterpreting the Qur'an. But when you have a vaguely-written document that people are encouraged to accept without question, it's inevitable that someone will act on misinterpretation. The fact that terrorists got it wrong is no consolation the victims or their families.
But I'm certainly not angry at Muslims in general. I understand that most Muslims are peaceful and condemn terrorism.

if that's your path, then persue it peacefully. i don't agree that the terrorists have misinterpreted the koran.
i haven't read the koran in its entirety, but what i've read, regardless of context, is narrow-minded verging on obsessive, and worse even than the bible. if you're able to overlook the hell-fire and slaying of non-believers and find a peaceful religion there, that's fine. i will continue to believe that it was specifically written, as a more extreme version of the new testament, to unify the arab tribes against the spread of christianity. i believe that mohammed knew of the life of peter, or was at least shrewd enough to see the lie, and copied his tactics.

I'm not sure...some say that Mohammad was violent therefore Islam is a violent religion no matter what the people believe...others say different...both sides have offered evidence so I'm not sure...I know that I don't agree with it...but i respect people's beliefs...

I dislike everything about islam and felt that way before 911. You asked so don't report me for answering.
Go to this question and see how disturbing it is. If you disagree with the person who asked the question, then you should dislike islam too:

I cannot condemn these followers of Allah, as misguided as they might have been. Their arguments were not illogical, and their grievances were not all wrong. They might have acted in a way that is wrong, but they died serving Allah in their hearts. The manner is not good, but if they were sincere in their belief I do not think it is for us to say whether Allah will turn them away or not.

It's interesting how christians say the bible is not to be taken literally but when it comes to the quran they hold the believers in islam to every word.
My question is if we beat our kids with a rod, does that guarantee they won't be spoiled

It would be like condemning all of Christianity because of a handful of perverted priests.
I don't have a problem with Islam.
