I have been having very painful muscle cramps in my my lower leg(calf). My grandmother said that i might have ricketts.
I asked her what it was and all she said was i should eat better.
* Oh and these pains usually come at night when im streching in my sleep *

My dad had ricketts when he was a child from starvation. Its caused by a vitamin D deficiency in countries where there is lack of good nutrition.
Your grandmother probably remembers the depression well since it occured in the 1940's and she may have seen people afflicted with this problem.
My dad had some bone deformities in his legs and feet.

ricketts are from a lack of calcium, i believe its some type of bone disease

it's a Vitamin D deficiency that can come from not going out in the sun.
