Your proposal is not universally true, and I'd like to see the study you mention.

Actually, Nietzsche had some interesting ideas about this topic. He proposed that most religions prevalent today espouse "slave morality" where being meek, self-denying, harmonious and pious is "good."

People who espouse "master morality" are then thought by these religions to be "bad," but it is those very qualities that they value in "master morality" that gives them wealth and power: the willingness to use power to achieve goals, and comfort with being 'better' (more powerful, more creative, more wealthy) than other people.

It is not necessarily the case. Being rich however allows you more time for many activities the poor can't afford. When the mind is occupied with so many concerns, it tends to forget about God.

because the rich feel they need no help because money gives them all the support they need.
Poor depend on God because each day can truly be a struggle.
However, if a guy waves a gun in a man's face or puts him on his knees and says, "you're dead", I guarantee those that have no faith or don't depend on God will change their minds quickly...it is human nature.

I think you are seeing the effects of higher education.

The correlation is that people from upper socio-economic classes have higher education moreso than people from lower socio-economic classes. This higher education correlates with less religiosity.

Rich people just use it to manipulate their own agendas.
