Moses had it recorded that God said we must all respect our parents and their traditions which honor God. On the other hand.. we may not disobey God ever. So if God has made us be born to parents who disobey God ( and who doesn't ? ) then we must respect them and obey them but not if they lead us into sin ( which GOD alone defines ).
It is all part of the learning process to develop absolute love and compassion for one another as we all move forward toward the last day.
Absent parents? Meaning they abandoned you? You must not repeat their mistake.... you wil have to remember how YOU feel about what they have done to your heart of hearts... and you must never do that to your own children. Later.. if you meet with your parents ...it is always up to you to decide whether or not to forgive them ..there is no requirement that you keep up conversations etc ... Jesus did say though.. to be forgiven we must forgive. Just proceed carefully and with great care. Judgement day is not here yet.

Best thing for you to do is grow up to be a better person, and a far better parent than your folks have ever been. By you planning your life in the most positive way possible and moving out with a great job and planning a great family; you can rub it in their face and make em feel like crap.

I had a revelation about this a few years ago when I was struggling in the relationship with my mother....and I learned that Honor your mother and father meant honoring them with your actions When you are succesful in life and are following a good path that bring HONOR to your parents I think this is what that means.
If they are not around the way you live still honors the name of your father and mother.....hope this helps

well, first of all, do we really know that they dont love us? or they havnt shown their love to us? or they are so much stressed by other problems in keeping our well being upto their expectations that they dont know that they have lost touch with us and we think they dont love us.
E.g. God created you and he loves u all the time, but humans dont have time to think of HIM and remember of his Goodness. Does it mean God doesnot love us, and he doesnot help us in need? No right. We just have closed our eyes and busy with other useless stuff.
Same way, the parents always love us and even showing their love in ways we dont expect or imagine. its time for us to understand their love and love them back. its never true that the parents dont love their kids. Its kids who is at fault, but since kid is just a kid, so its not his fault too, and they know it. parents dont expect anything from their kids, but do we do anything for them?
Bible dont have answer to all the questions and some of the answer lies in your heart. think of your duty as a kid to your parents and then do it. Rest is not in your hand., they do love you and they will always love you.

It doesn't. It just says for you to honor your parents.
It does say for your parents not to go out of their way to piss you off as well though. However, if they don't believe in the bible, you're better off taking Christ's advice on people in general. They're all your bothers and treat them the way you wish to be treated.

the bible says to honor and obey your parents so that your days on this earth will be long.
if you are being abused...then you should go and get help.
if your just one of those teenagers they get made at your parents just because they tell you no...then you should be grateful...because a lot of kids don't have parents.

Within reason, the Bible teaches that obedience is better than sacrifice.
As long as what the ask or tell you to do is not hutful,harmful or even fatal;then do your best to be obedient to them.
