My best friend is a police officer with the title of Sgt and he lives in Detroit. His salary he says is about $6200 with the ability to make about $20 per hour for outside jobs such as "football games, grocery stores, etc.)

It varies greatly depending on the city/state. You need to be more specific to which city or state. Some make $13.00/hr while others make well over $50.00/hr

Salaries vary greatly by city. My son and his friend are both patrolmen in different cities and their salaries differ by about $7K. I don't know how much the higher ranks earn.
