the cable seems to fit my ps3, but i am getting no picture or sound

YES you can the dude who said you can't has no idea what he is talking about. Just make sure when you hook it up and get no picture you just turn it off then to turn it on use the power button on the console and hold it for ten seconds so it will reset the audio/video settings back to the default of av cables instead of the hdmi.

Yes, but if you've been using your PS3 with a HDMI cable it'll be set up to look for it.
With the console on standby hold down the front power switch for a few seconds (it'll bleep several times) and it'll return to its default video settings.
You ought to get a picture and adjust the settings to suit.
Obviously, you'll need to do the same when you take it home to reset it for HDMI.

yes you should be able to but why use your ps2 cables use your ps3 cables they work on any tv and make sure you play the red yellow white

No, it's completely different. I believe the PS3 came with regular run of the mill A/V non HD cables. I know you can also purchase component cables for it. Good luck finding a store that's open. ShopRite might actually have the cables because they carry video game accessories and I know they are open. Good luck!
