Through boot camp you get to wear Army issued glasses, aka BCG's. Airborne school may also require you wear BCG's, it is up to them since you are still in the training pipeline. Contacts in the field is also questionable. What are going to do when and if one falls out? Glasses will probably be your future but you should be able to wear your own eventually as long as they are durable and too fadish.

If you are an 11 Series and put in for Corrective Laser Surgery you will be moved to the front of the list. You most likely will get the Surgery with in a year. Contacts are a no go for jumps. During your time in the field you will be in an all male unit, do you really care if you are wearing BCG's(Birth Control Glasses). Those brown glasses are damn near bullet proof. There are now, offered from the army many different frames. They are kinda sorta stylish but do not expect to be wearing these on a runway(model type) any time soon. Just go to the TMC as soon as you get to your first duty station out of AIT, although you may be able to go during AIT as it is a great deal different from when I went though. Tell the doc that you want an optometry appointment to see if you are eligible for Corrective Laser Surgery. I got it and now see 20/15. The army does PRK. This procedure is much different from lasix and you will be out of commission for a week and then you will be iffy on vision for a few months but then it will "click in" and you will see crystal clear.

Contacts are OK for garrison but are not a good idea for the field as there is no real sanitary conditions out there and you will end up with pink eye sooner or later.

In bootcamp you have to wear what we call in the Navy BC's (Birth Control) Glasses. After bootcamp you can wear your own glasses or better glasses the military will give you. The Army will give you a contact exam if you ask for one, but you will have to pay for your own contacts.
Hint do not wear contacts throughout boot camp. During gas training the tear gas could melt the contact to your eye. Not a good idea, and you will face possible disciplinary action (ie loss of pay or possible seperation not to mention possible BLINDNESS)

They issue the goofy ones & that'll be your only choice at OSUT. When you graduate from Sand Hill & head down to main post for airborne you can switch to whatever civilian glasses you like. Then you can wear contacts all you want, but never in a field environment. In the field you tend to get dirty & if you wear contacts you WILL get eye infections which having too many of can easily lead to damaged vision or maybe blindness when you get older - so even if you think you can get away with it, don't, no one in the field cares what you look like.

You'll have to wear the BCG's or Birth Control Glasses while in training, but after that, you can get a little more stylish glasses. I think there's a certain type of glasses you have to wear while jumping, but I don't know that for sure. I wasn't fortunate enough to get airborne.

Ok, my hubby is a paratrooper and used to wear glasses. You get the world's ugliest glasses for training. When you reach your duty station you can put in a packet to have the surgery. My hubby swears by it. He has been on 5 combat tours 3 with glasses and 2 with out, he swears that the lack of glasses makes his life easier. The army pays for the surgery and paratroopers are the first on the list to get it. If you are uncomfortable with the surgery, the army will issue you civilian glasses after you hit your permanent duty station. You can wear your contacts after training, but it is not recommended when you are in the field because you will have a hard time washing them. I wish you luck on your endeavor.

When you get to Airborne school, you'll be able to wear civilian glasses. They'll, of course, recommend that you wear the BCGs. At your unit, you'll be able to were contacts when you're in garrison. In the field or during deployments, you'll have to wear glasses.

You have to have them for bootcamp. You also might consider getting the surgeory. I am no longer in the service but I just got the surgeory and now my eyes are better than 20/20 and I am 42 years old best thing I ever did. prices range from 1200.00 to 3000.00 for the most modern technique.

the place did you get all of this suggestion from.. first specific that's real which you cant placed on contacts in consumer-friendly and the clarification is that when you pass in the time of the gas chameber could u choose that sh*t caught on your eyes below your contacts and throughout your hands..i think of no longer.. its merely greater advantageous to placed on standard glasses and as far as them being issued thats generally real because of the fact once you're in consumer-friendly then you definitely're a clone.. its all approximately uniformity in case you have those form of human beings with distinctive glasses then you definitely will look fed on.. now on the subject of the consumer-friendly.. verify it out the air tension has the least complicated consumer-friendly out of any branch so whoever instructed you that it grew to become into "hell" is a p*ssy because of the fact we've human beings passing military and marine consumer-friendly daily and thats no longer even hell.. consumer-friendly coaching for any branch is regularly psychological in case you are able to mentally handle it then youll be ok.. yeah the actual sucks yet your physique gets used to it.. as quickly as you graduate consumer-friendly you have the skill to pass returned to wearing contacts and your very own glasses and it wont be as strict so it is going to likely be ok i promise
