You need to swap trains.
Take the green line and get off on rosa parks (imperial/wilmigton)
Take the blue line north bound to 7th street metro center.
Then take the red line northbound, this line will split to wilshire and vermont take the vermont train. It will take bout and hour total time.

I work at LAX. When you arrive go outside and stand under the BLUE sign. Get on the "G" shuttle bus. Its free. It will take you from the airport to catch the GREEN line. Get off and take the BLUE line north (Los Angeles). Then when it ends transfer to the RED line. The cost is $5 for an all day pass. We took it last week to Universal Studios. Took a little over an hour. YES..you swap trains..OR...You can also take a shuttle. Stand under the ORANGE sign, the dispatchers are right there to help you. Supershuttle or Primetime Shuttle.

you have a couple of options here if you want to all by
trains you would need to make 3 transfers (plus the lax bus)
to do that you first take the lax Shuttle G bus to the Aviation
terminal
get a day pass for $5.00 (else you would have to pay $1.25 on each train) take the green Line to Rosa Park station the
blue line to 7th and Metro then the Red Line to Universal
an slightly faster option is to take the Flyway bus to Union station for $4.00 and then Red Line to Universal city for $1.25
the last options avoids downtown
take the Lot C bus to the city bus terminal
board Culver city line 6 (Green bus) pay this driver $1.00
get inter-agency transfer take the bus to Westwood/Lindbrook then transfer to Metro rapid 761 had
the driver the transfer take this bus to Sepulveda/Ventura
then change to the 750 to Universal city (pay this driver $1.25)

doom just take the shuttle from LAX like Kingsley suggests. There is no direct or easy or practical route to Universal for someone with luggage and who doesn't know the city..
