I connected my Dell to my TV and it is black and white, why?

I connected my Dell laptop to my tv with an s-video cable. The tv will only display the picture in black & white.

What can I do?

Unlike VGA, S-video does not carry any control signals so the laptop has no clue about the TV resolution.
S-video can also carry only SD signals, so set the resolution of your graphics output to 720x480 MAX.
