I mean really, what's the deal? Most people want a cheap or free puppy anyway, why add any extras to it?

A puppy is a puppy. If you want it trained, you train it! If you want it micro-chipped, you chip it! It is your dog, and you get to do what you want, right?

It is irresponsible to breed a dog, bring puppies into this world, and not care where they go or what happens to them. For all you know someone could be using the dog to fight, animal testing, or as a lawn ornament in which the dog would starve. Responsible breeders do follow-ups to ensure their pups are being taken care of properly. Most make the owners sign an agreement stating that if the dog is not cared for within the guidelines they will be forced to forfeit the pup. People who give them away for free are obviously not concerned about the genetic health of the pups or what happens to them. There is no such thing as accidental breeding it's called not keeping an eye on your dog. People who allow their dogs to breed with any sort of dog or who don't watch their dogs, don't spay or neuter, or just don't care are backyard breeders and only contribute to the worlds pet overpopulation and most likely at least half the litter will end up in an animal shelter and most of them will be euthanized.

I would never give away a puppy to someone who wanted a cheep or free dog, that would be my first reason not to give someone a puppy. I would pay for the micro chipping and shots to insure the dog would be safe from the moment it left my care. Any puppies I have raised get homed with a rescue contract with spay/neuter contracts and often K9 training conditions for larger breeds. I always send home toys and bedding so it is more calming for puppy too, in it's new home.

People don't worry about the getting rid of, part. It's the fact that better than 50% of those puppies will end up abandoned, untrained, unfixed...basically running wild. They'll breed with other unfixed dogs and lead to more unwanted dogs. People have a hard time raising their children (or we wouldn't need Supernanny) and the often suck even more at raising dogs. It's not the kind of thing that comes without effort. People are inconsistent and end up abusing their animals because they don't respond the way the person wants. It's not the dog's fault, it's the owner

The questions asked about that topic are usually to help inform others of the proper way to breed.

There are way too many people out there who stick two dogs together, don't provide the proper care, and then sell the puppies at ridiculous prices or stick them in a box with a "for sale $10" sign in the parking lot of Walmart.

People are worried about what happens when puppies are being sold because we have a lot of dogs in the shelters....and many of them ended up there because people are not doing the right thing when breeding and selling pups.

ok this is coming from someone who has been around people breeding pitbulls for years and is now breeding them...we worry about it because like our dogs they already have a bad rep so we want to make sure they dogs go to the right homes and get the right family's. We do house checks and credit checks before we even think about selling or giving our dogs to homes. there are so many dogs i n shelters we don't need to be helping the population grow. Our dogs are at least 3 months old before they leave the house just to make sure they have the right temperaments and are potty trained. we also require a contract saying if the person cant keep the dog they are to return it no matter how old....we worry becuse we love our animals and want the right home for them.

Will, most pups old or young if given away to a free home they are abused because a lot of people will treat them like nothing because they got it for free or really cheap. I am not a person that would do that but some people do that kind of stuff. It is recommended that if you are selling a dog to sell the dog for 50-100, after all your the one who paid for the vet, groomer, kennel AND to buy him form a shelter or breeder so 100 isn't really that bad to the person who's buying him. And also they won't spay or neuter if he was cheap because they are not loosing any money if they didn't if he was free but will loose money if they paid a lot of money for them. It all makes sense if you really think about it.

NO - most intelligent people DONT want a "free" puppy.. what happens in 3 months when the free puppy dies because it had a heart defect?? or worm infection...

Free puppies cost more in the long run than one who was given its shots BEFORE you got it (its cheaper for owners with litters to vaccinate the whole litter than for 1 person with 1 pup to do it)
fact is that most people who get "free" pups do not care for them as well as people who invested money in them - in fact in the USA the majority of serial killers admitted they started out by torturing and killing "free to good home" pets...

ANY educated person would first go to a shelter and adopt rather than take a free pup and make life easier on some idiot who didnt spay their female or take procautions when she was in heat...

free pups are not vaccinated - that means you can take a pup.. and 6 days later have $800 vet bills because it got parvo...coccidia.. or any number of other problems...
(pups should be vaccinated 3 days BEFORE leaving their current home)

many "free" pups and kittens - when they go missing - the owners dont bother to claim them back from the shelter or pound - they simply go get another free one..
typically they may never get spayed/neutered so continue the cycle of making more unwanted pups...

well im not sure what u mean by "getting rid of them" but if u mean giving the dog to another family then you want to make sure theyll take proper care of the dog and give him the care he needs.. if u mean get rid of them by just leaving them somewhere then people are worried because u have something very wrong with you if u just leave poor helpless dogs by themselves all alone where anything could happen to them

And it is that attitude that has ended up with millions of dogs who never did a da** thing wrong being killed in a shelter. It's also that attitude that has encouraged dog fighting, abuse, neglect and strays every where. Dogs are NOT a toy, they do not have an off switch so that they can be put on a shelf when the owner is done playing with them. They are a loyal companion whose needs are on par with a child's.
