When she's ready. Give her a spoon and fork with each meal and let her try, if she doesn't get on let her use her fingers. my daughter didn't get the hang of it until she was gone 2 but my nephew won't be two until february and he's great with a fork!

When every you are ready ( for the mess, lol ) and whenever she feels comfy doing it. My oldest didn't eat with one until he was well over 2, just because he was my only son so I had plenty of time to feed him myself. Then came my second and he was using spoons at around 18 months. Then came my third...yeah he was eating on his own before he was 12 months. Now he is 2 and a half and he always has utensils, but more often than not uses his hands. I just consistently hand him his spoon, show how much nicer it is, and encourage it. But hey, he is eating so I don't care how he gets it there. And for the mess...well I invested in a self-cleaning system, I bought two dogs. They not only are family, but they clean pretty well. Then I just swiffer over it to disinfect and I am on my way. I have 4 month old twins now and I probably will let them start at about 12 months as well.

I think my daughter started trying at around 12 months. But didnt get proper control till about 20 months.
Shes using a knife and fork, and spoon now and can cut meet and cheese etc and very rarely drops any or spills from the spoon, i.e soup etc. She is 3 in January.
Try her with a spoon of her own and you make the rest up, so she's getting some food into her mouth!

i have one 2 year old boy and all i can say is they are all different,he was using a spoon when he was 12/14 months, but still now sometimes uses his fingers to mess,i wouldn't dwell on it,they are all so different, and trust me when she does develop the motor skills, you will wish to go back to the days when u could feed her less mess,my son is very independent now ,he is only 2,has to be his way lol, when u are feeding her always give her a spoon while u are doing it,that will get her used to holding it a most likely try to join in,also put a couple of spoons in with her toys ,get her used to having them around, she can practice in her play time how to use it,and just another note ignore that message that says umm a year ago, rubbish she will know when she is ready ,children are not text books!!! its people like that ,that makes us think we do our jobs wrong

Whenever she develops fine motor skills and you start requiring her to use them.
Some time around 2 is when that happens.
