I don't want to be a hermit, but it seems that the more we're around other people, and the more we're in heavily populated places, the higher the likelihood that we get sick or increase our chances of developing infections.

Is there truth to this, or is it just paranoia?

What if you have to live/work in places such as New York City? Then what? lol.

It does, but not by a huge amount. As long as you wash your hands frequently, and have a decent diet, most people will be able to fend off most common diseases.

There is a theory that the immune system works best when it gets some exercise. By this idea, holing up like Howard Hughes and avoiding all contact will make you MORE susceptible, not less. And it would be a whole lot more boring, too. Who wants to watch videos or play on the computer all day? Besides teenagers, of course.

Good Question.

I think you could actually be right.

It IS most likely in heavily populated places, such as New York, as you said.

But of course it depends on the people around you - if THEY are infected or are sick, then yes there is a chance that could get sick too.

If you live or work in New York, you may get sick, but your body would most probably get used to the germs and so be may able to fight them.

I hope what I said has helped =]

Just keep washing your hands all the time and try to keep them out of your mouth (if you are prone to that sort of thing) and basically away from your face. Actually it builds immunity to be exposed to germs. Sort of like what doesn't kill you makes you stronger :I
