Definately keep your eye on him. Dogs mourn just like people, and sometimes even worse. If you notice any loss in appetite call your vet! Also make sure he/she is drinking fluids and getting up to move around, play, etc. Dogs can mourn themselves to death, so keep an eye out and especially make sure he/she is eating! We had two rotties that were 11 and 13 years old, and when our male died on Father's Day, our female quit eating, etc., and she passed the following Fourth of July from what we considered a broken heart.

I'm sorry to hear about the dog you lost. I daresay your golden lab misses him too.

He might be okay. But golden labs tend to be a bit more social than some other dogs, so you might want to get him a friend- if you have the time to devote to caring for and training a new dog.

Other than that, try to spend extra time playing with your lab during the day.

Good luck.

sorry to hear about your dog i know how it feels to lose a dog youve had for so long. your dog is confused about why your other dog isnt around anymore and when you lock him out of your room he probably begins to feel lonely. i had a golden lab too when i was a baby and then when i was 7 we bought a pitbull mix.. about 2 years after we bought the pitbull mix the lab died and the pitbull was wondering where he went.. this also happened when a dog i babysat who was very close to the same pitbull was attacked and sadly died.. just to let you know the dog wasnt attacked while i was watching him but my pitbull couldnt understand why the other dog was no longer around and to this day if you say the dogs name my pit bull starts looking around 4 him :(

the lab will feel a loss, just like you do. I know when I have lost a dog int he past, the other dogs moped around for a few day. Very sad, but they do adjust.

Don't worry about it, he'll be fine. You could buy him a stuffie, dogs love them and they cuddle with them and take them everywhere.Try putting clock next to where he sleeps or hangs out. They like to hear a heartbeat, yet they are not smart enough to figure out that it's not a heart. It worked for my dog, hope I help :]

ps. Sorry for your loss, I love labs, I have one myself -- 4 month-old chocolate lab.
