I would make sure you do alot of research so your not getting rid of the dog because of your allergies.
Here's a list of small dogs that are better for people with allergies.
Miniature Poodle
Bichon Frise
Miniature Schnauzer
There are some larger breeds also.
But I would try to spend time with the dog you want to adopt or at least with the dogs of that breed to find out if if you'll have a reaction.

Shorthaired with no allergice reaction??.......hmmm.... I would say a Cairn Terrier. They are shorter hair then most of the loww allergen dogs, and sooo cute and intelligent. Other than that, here's a few that have longer hair:
Yorkies, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Havanese**, Westies, Chinese Crested, Shihtzu, Poodles. I would go to AKC.com and see what you find as well.

Toy Poodle. My Aunt has one, and my grandmother watches it for her when she is at work. My grandma told me that the dog dosen't bother her allergies (she's allergic to dogs), and the dog is very cute...and brave. Gave my German Shepard a bloody nose.

toy poodle, their hair is sooo soft, although they do require proper grooming to keep their hair form becoming knotted ir matted, but even when they get their hair cut short it is still very soft. They can also be very playful, depending on the poodle itself.

You should get a wire fox terrier. They're very cute and they have short wireish hair. I have allergies and she doesn't bother me.
