My mother gave me her highly elusive recipe for dressing & this was listed as an ingredient, but she didn't think the spelling was correct.

BONA CHRITTON. Part Latin. Bona = Good. Chritton is a herbal spice derived from the plant Chrito. It is found in African dunes. It is VERY HOT. It is expensive and should be used sparingly. Just a sprinkle is all that is needed.
Harrods used to stock it - but it was discontinued through lack of demand. Also it has a very short shelf life.
Try searching Bona Chritton on the net. It used to be sold on a stall in a market near Liverpool St. station.
