Which is better Gerber or Leatherman?

Question

Which is the best multi-tool a Gerber or a Leatherman? Which model is the best. I know little about either one but am shopping for one. I don't want a big expesive one probably less than $50.00.

I am in the army and all we get are gerbers. I had a leatherman before the army, and i am positively loyal to gerber.

I have both and prefer the Gerber, but others prefer the Leatherman, so check both of them out and pick the one you are most comfortable with.

Just personal preference. I prefer leatherman, my brother prefers Gerber.

Both are good quality. I have always liked Gerber's blades. I do not like multi-tools though. I usually (99% of the time) only need a knife and it needs to be one handed open and close. I do not like searching for a knife with cork screw, can opener, pliers, saw, kitchen sink, etc. To many gadets that I do not use on my belt. I also prefer pocket clips over pouches.

I find the leatherman product line to be more durable and have some of the more interesting features. This is my favorite so far.

I also like the fact that you can add a "bit kit".

There are many out there for under 50 bucks.

I've owned both and I don't think one is any better than the other. They're just different. One thing to watch for is to make sure that the handles on the pliers don't come together when they are closed or they will pinch the heck out of you hand when you are cutting wire or if the pliers slip off a nut or bolt.

i prefer the gerber, i fell like it is a better tool, i wasnt impressed by the leatherman.

I have both and prefer the Gerber. It just seems sturdier. Both are excellent.
