To make the world safer, which includes the U.S. It is in our nations best interest to have a stable, democratic government in place in Iraq. If we were to leave now, Iran would end up moving in and taking over. They wouldn't limit their methods to ensure control, would use genocide if they had to. The world cannot afford to let Iran with it's current leadership gain any more power in the region.

I'm sick and tired of hearing this question.
I'm sick and tired of this "The military only exists to defend us. If Iraq isn't a threat to us, we shouldn't be there."
That is a heap of racist bullshit.

The United States serves as a beacon to the rest of the world. It is the only nation with a Constitution FROM the people TO the government, telling the government what it can and can't do, not the other way around.

Saying the US should only go to war to defend the US is saying "Hey Iraqis, look at all this freedom we have! There's enough for you, but YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY because you were unlucky enough to be born in a different part of the globe. What's that, your family is being tortured for voicing their support of the US? Well why are you telling me, you were born thousands of miles away from where I was born, why should I give a damn?"

It's like saying "Sure, but Hitler didn't kill any AMERICAN Jews".

The US soldiers are in Iraq because some people in this world still believe "That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".

ALL men. Not AMERICAN men. ALL men.

The US soldiers are in Iraq because the US is the only country with the morals and the balls to stand up for the oppressed across the globe.


EDIT: For the record watzthepoint, I'm not an American. And it looks like America has to be the world's sherrif, because nobody else is stepping up to the job.

this question can be easily answered, ask your self these questions :

Did iraq ever participate in an attack on america (and no previous wars are not included because they included attacks from both sides)

Did any iraqi citizen ever participate in a terrorist attack on the united states, or anywhere in the world for that matter

Was there al qaeda in iraq before we went there, when saddam was keeping the country under control (btw saddam was very secular, not religious, he even allowed gay bars in iraq) or did they show up after we invaded

how many americans been killed in this war, how many iraqis ?

why?

Many ignorant Americans forget history. Can't you remember September 11th. They will never stop until we either kill them all or change the way they think. Maybe you should of been in or close to the World Trade center when it happened to understand the reality. Sadly, this will probably happen again on our soil. We will take action and then you cowards will wave your American flags for a couple weeks and then forget it all happened.

actually reguardless of whatever mumbo jumbo B/S all these republicans are saying, being in Iraq is NOT making the US safer. In fact its making us alot more vulnerable. Bush is wasting our military efforts in a country which poses NO THREAT TO US!!!!! There were no weapons of mass destruction, just a bunch of towel heads with Ak's and RPG's, and IED's. We need to concentrate on countries which have the destructive power to pose a serious threat to our nation. and regardless of what people think that country is not iraq. Countries like Russia, China and even Iran have been building up their military including nuclear arms. If any of them decided to attack us tomarrow, we'd be, for lack of a better term, F*CKED!!! there would be no time for the draft which we would definitely need and all our troops would be in Iraq for no reason. Bush and rep dipsh*ts need to realize that there are REAL threats in this world and people are really no longer fearing the United States. And a "victory" in iraq isnt gonna make us the big bad super power again.

Sounds like a stupid question by someone outside the US of A. Nobody could have their head in the sand since 9/11 without realizing we fight terrorism there, or here.

And, to answerer vittorio_x_x_x2, the only stuipd people over here are the one's tolerating your insults. Jealousy of the greatest country in the world gets you nothing but pity.

A lot of people, especially the families of the soldiers, want to believe that. I can't say that I blame them. The fact is, however, that the numerous terrorist operations that have been discovered around the world weren't found because we invaded Iraq or because of intelligence we gathered there.

Tragically, they are dying and we are less safe because now the extremists have more fuel with which to recruit new members because of America's aggression in Iraq. That means more people hating America and more people willing to try to attack us wherever they can.

This is for all the little whine and cheeseheads who go around pontificating their narrow minded little opinions on world politics.Just where do you want us to fight the Islamo-Fascists? Here? On your street and backyard? Or your beloved Starbucks? Would you stand up here and fight for your freedom and beliefs? Would you fight for me and my children and for your children? I seriously doubt it ,you don't have the guts or fortitude, integrity or the intelligence. GO ahead and bury your heads in the sands of yuppie-ville and hug a terrorist while you are at it. And maybe hug a few trees for good measure! I am sure you feel so much better for the experience!
