So many good people have died while fighting in the Iraqi wars, and still there are many people that risk their lives to go to war. Why do we all have to fight? Why do we all have to go around doing things like that? Tell me what you know. Simple answers will not be rated.

When a country or nation-state feels strongly enough about something that it needs to influence other countries, it was certain tools it can use. These tools include diplomacy, economics, information and lastly the military.

Our nations leader felt strongly enough about trying to stop terrorism (Afghanistan) and rid the Middle East of Saddam Hussein (Iraq) that it was willing to go to war with its military. I'm sure they thought long and hard about it, and tried diplomacy, economic sanctions and information warfare, because using your military is very expensive and unpopular. (Seems that the quickest way not to get re-elected is to be the President that took the country to war.) When it was apparent that those other elements would not work, they turned to the military. The military whipped through Iraq and took down their Army in short order and took Saddam out of power. Next came the rebuilding phase in order to establish a representative government in Iraq. This turned out to be the hard part as we've been attempting to do this for four years.

Until we can establish security and stability in Iraq, we don't think we can leave. There are many factions from inside Iraq (BADR, ISCI, etc.) and outside Iraq (Al Quadi, Iran, etc.) that would love to fill the power vacuum created by taking down the Saddam regime. If most of these organizations took power in Iraq, it would not be in our best interests. Therefore, we are still here attempting to build Iraq's security forces and government to be able to provide for their own security and stability. And while we're here, those other organizations attack us and try to break the will of the American people to cause us to pull out prematurely. That's the way insurgents fight and win, a long slow process.

As far as the Soldiers, we follow orders. We are sent to Iraq to accomplish the missions we are assigned. Many Soldiers will leave the military when their time is up because they are tired of coming to Iraq or because they don't agree with the reasons we are in Iraq. But many will stay because they agree with the mission or they just like being in the military despite the hardships of being in Iraq.

As I see it, as a nation we can either stand up for what we think is right and finish this mission or we can pull out and let whatever happens, happen. We cannot have it both ways. I think next year's elections will determine which way we go.

Well being a veteran myself as well as my son it is because they were ordered by that nitwit we have in the White House,do u really think they would go if they had there own choice.
We have lost a lot of good young people who never had a chance to full fill the rest of there life's ambitions and dreams and it is a shame.
Part of fighting has been a apart of this world since time began I personally don't think it is what God,planned either man has started all the wars that have happened so what does that say about us as a human race as a whole.
I totally agree with u I hate it but until man changes its ways it will remain like this until the end of time now won't it.

i am a 10 yr navy veteran and spent 18 months in vietnam...
i served very proudly in an un-popular war..of course most all wars are really un-popular..which makes other people whom dont believe in wars pissy...people have been loosing their lives since mankind began..giving his/her life for what they either believe in or for their country or individual convictions..giving up your life is the ultimate sacrifice there is..dying is never popular..but sorry to say..is not an option...as long as there are leaders who want to vause harm or take over the world..fighting to get them out of power is necessary...the hitlers and hussanes of the world must be vanquished to keep piece (if thats possible)..the jerk in iran and venezuala not to mention castro..are and will remain threats as long as they are in power..specialy threats to this country and our way of life...do you think we should abandon our military and let these idiots take over us or the rest of the world ??? can you imagine a city without a police force to enforce the laws ??? as sad as it is..a military is a necessity..if EVERY country in the world would dis-band their militaries (not going to happen)..then and only then we might have total piece...

Gee... "can't we all just get along?"... when has that *ever* worked? ... from when Ug-Lug first came out of the trees and clubbed Lucy on the head and drug her back to his cave, mankind has been in conflict. So why don't you convince the Islamic Jihadist to renounce their plan of converting the entire planet to Islam by force and we can all go back to our normal day to day worries.

They don't. There isn't a single member of the United States Armed Forces that did not volunteer.
