I took my dog for a simple eyelid procedure. I received a phone call that afternoon from the vet saying everything went fine but he would like to keep the dog overnight for monitoring so the dog would not paw stitches. The vet informed me the next morning that the dog had hung itself while trying to get out of its holding area. Collar on the top of the fence. In other words, the dog was never watched and died a horriffic death.

BTW, I did not pay the vet as he showed me his artwork on my dead dog.

OMG!! First report this clinic to the veterinary board on your state. This is one of the reasons why I do not like to leave my dogs at clinics. You should get an attorney. File the complaint with the vet board first. The vet staff should of been smart enough to know not to leave him with a collar on him!!

i'm so, so sorry. poor dog! that is pretty bad and you were right not to pay, but I think the vet probably feels terrible too. they cant watch the dog 100% of the time, and the dog was probably waiting for a time when no one was looking before trying to escape. things like that do happen - I live on a farm and I couldnt tell you the number of sheep which have hung themselves on bits of string, hayracks or gates. we even had one who put her head in a bucket of water, lay down and drowned.

what I think is the worst is the fact that the vet showed you a picture, that is really insensitive. quite cruel really.

I wouldnt take any action apart from spreading word of what happened to other people. but it is such a horrid thing to happen when you are trusting him with your pet!

Yes of course there is. They always go unwatched overnight unless it is at a 24 hour clinic, but what I would want to know is what the dog was in the holding area wearing a collar. My vet uses a thin plastic pull away type thing when he has the animals in his care so as if this sort of thing happened it would break.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I would be off to see your lawyer right away.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I agree with others that say it sounds more like negligence than malpractice. I feel that they should at least pay you for the cost of the dog, plus the procedure. To determine what exactly what damages you might collect, you would have to consult an attorney, which in itself can be expensive.

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Oh my. I am so incredibly sorry this happened to your dog and to your family. What a horrible tragedy.

I'm not sure about the malpractice because this wasn't a medical procedure itself. Your dog died because of negligence. I'd consult an attorney and see what the laws are in your area. I'm sure the laws vary from state to state.

Once again, I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I think that would be negligence, not malpractice. You can file for the cost of the dog, and maybe what you paid (if you did) for the eye procedure. Remember, you cannot get pain and suffering for the dog. Dogs are property under the law.

The vet board may not care to hear about it since it was not true malpractice, but you can still have a court case.

Wow. I agree with the first poster. File a complaint and get yourself a lawyer. I never leave my dog over night unless I absolutely have to and know that someone will be there with the animals.. Far too often clinics don't have anyone on staff after closing hours.

i'm sorry approximately your canine. The vet has a incredible to request charge for his amenities, despite if i think of he grew to become into fairly stupid to after his team negligently allowed the adverse puppy to return to this style of adverse end. in this US, animals are chattels (belongings). tell him if he does not write off your ill, you will countersue for the fee of the animal. you could no longer declare punitive or exemplary damages, yet you get compensated for the actual fee of the animal. additionally, tell him you're going call your community investigative new reporter. he might desire to no longer choose his veterinary medical institution splashed on the information with you telling approximately how they exceeded you your lifeless canine that they have got been meant to be looking after. i'm sorry this exceeded off to you. Namaste.

First of all I am so sorry :(((((

Report this to the authorities! Sounds like malpractice to me. My first thought was maybe the surgery didnt even go well like he said! Maybe they didnt want to be responsible, but most likely they were not watching the dog.
Once again, I am soooo sorry for your loss :(
