I'm making pumpkin cookies to bring over to my parents' house. Unfortunately, I'm out of both vanilla and cash (my paycheck hasn't hit my account yet). How will this affect my cookies?

If you have another flavoring, like orange or rum, try that. Almond won't blend well with the other "pumpkin" spices. Good luck!

Do you have any Jack Daniels around the house? A few drops of a good bourbon will mimic vanilla in a pinch. Don't worry the alcohol will cook off durring baking.

If I were you I would go next door and ask to borrow a teaspoon or two because they won't be as good without the vanilla. Then when you get your paycheck buy them another bottle. Good luck:)

Vanilla does give it a certain taste... but I really don't think it will affect the taste. If it's just like a teaspoon or so it won't. Sometimes I add cinnamon just a little to give it another taste.

Vanilla is used to enhance the flavor of things. It won't ruin your recipe, but it may not taste exactly the same. It should be fine though.

Vanilla just makes a richer flavor is all. I wouldn't worry about any. No one but you would know the difference.

Can you call a friend? Or how well do you know your neighbors? I'm sure nobody would care if you borrowed a teaspoon or two. Or if they offer you the whole bottle, just make sure to buy them another one the minute your check clears. Happy Thanksgiving!

It won't ruin your recipe, but they may taste a little different. I'd give you a bottle if you were here; I have 3 bottles. It will be okay, don't worry.

Try it. I don't think it will hurt. Vanilla is just a flavoring.
