i know its an essential process. should it show up in the task manager though? could it be used for bad and naughty things?!

dllhost.exe is a totally legitimate process. Do not turn it off. When you come across a process you don't recognize, you can use the Process Library website (www.processlibrary.com) to look it up. Just type in the process and click [search]. Here is what the website had to say about dllhost.exe:

"dllhost.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Windows Operating System. The dllhost.exe file manages DLL based applications. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

dllhost.exe should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly.. "

Dllhost is usually used by other things, you can't tell if it's being used for good or ill.

It should show up in the task manager if it's being used though.
