I hooked everything back up the way it was before i started and now its idling real bad shaking and sputtering except when i give it gas. When working on it i unhooked a rubber fuel hose on accident thinking it was a vacuum line. spilled a little gas then hooked it back up. Then removed the fuse for the fuel pump and ran it out of gas incase i did that again. Did i screw something up buy doing this i figured it was safe to do since the instructions for changing the fuel filter tell me to do that? is it a fuel problem or a vacuum problem? 1995 nissan pickup 4 cylinder, fuel injected.

Pull the PCV valve back out and start the engine. Hold your thumb over the PCV valve inlet. If it starts running normal then the PCV valve is bad.

MY guess seeing how the problem goes away when you accelerate tells me that the problem is LEAN meaning that you somehow knocked off a manifold vacuum hose or broke off a plastic vacuum tree.
Listen very close for a faint hissing near the area where you were workin. As far as the procedure for releving fuel pressure Im not so sure about that. Call me if you like and I will see if I can help you out. You could use carb spray in the area of the suslpected vacuum leak (be exremly careful to not spray on exhaust parts or ignition you could cause a fire instantly!!!!!!!!) just mist the area with the spray at idle and if there is a leak the idle will pick up or smooth out when the carb spray hits it.You may hace cracked the PCV valve whn trying to remove it. Did you remove the big hose from the MAF to the engine if so you may have not reinstalled it right or cracked it while removing it if so temp repair the crack with black electrical tape about ten raps around the hose 2" above and below the crack and order one from nissan.
Is the check engine light on now? You may have a hole in the air nlet hose from the MAF to the engine if there is a crack in that big hose or its not prooperly secured you can have problems .

Sounds like a vacuum leak. The pcv valve hose is either cracked or another vacuum hose is off. Once the fuel line is full of gas after running for a minute it should not be a problem.

You were working on the intake side of the motor did you find the pcv valve? just getting to the pcv under the two radiator hoses and replacing the Valve can crack the Vacuum hose that hooks to pvc to intake. look there first. If your careful with flammable carb cleaner you can locate the vacuum leak. Spray around and the engine will smooth out. There is a possability the EGR valve has carbon holding it slightly open. try tapping with a wooden hammer handle carefull don't hit the BTP black plastic valve next to it. That year was notorious for intake manifold leaks at he #4 Cly next to the Cly Head.
