This was an accounting mistake that happens occasionally.

Military policy is that already-paid bonuses are kept by the servicemember if the servicemember is unable to fulfill the requirements for the bonus as a result of any injury sustained in the line of duty.

Some accounting clerk somewhere made a mistake that's all.

And since this same issue has been refuted every day for the past several weeks - you knew your claims were false when you asked the question.

There was a question posted about this yesterday... but below is the government's policy regarding Enlistment Bonuses. If an injured soldier (injury NOT due to misconduct or negligence) finds him/herself in the situation where their EB is being recouped... then a MISTAKE has been made by their personnel/finance office. It really has nothing to do with the "government" trying to give these soldiers the shaft. They're doing that with this inane war in Iraq. I really do hope that this information can get to soldiers who find themselves in this position so that they can go to their Personnel/Finance office loaded with the correct information. "Members under EB contract who voluntarily fail to complete the entire contracted time in the rating, skill, or program for which the bonus is paid are ineligible to receive any future EB payments and may have any EB already received recouped." "b. Enlistment Bonus payments will stop, but recoupment of payments already received will not be required, if a member becomes ineligible for an EB for any of the reasons below: (1) Disability, injury, or illness not the result of misconduct or willful neglect, or not incurred during a period of unauthorized absence."

John_gal is right. You really do need to shut up. Although it's probably for the best that you don't serve in the military. Any honorable soldier would not want to be next to a coward. Why don't you do this country a favor and leave it.

Although the facts of the story are true, the military has gone on record as saying this is all a BIG mistake and they are working to correct it.

I think a little bit of WATERBOARDING is in order, here, so we can find the morons responsible. Then, a few heads mounted on pikes in front of the Pentagon will remind people that we need to take care of our veterans, not SCREW THEM OVER. I'm so mad I could bite a hole in a concrete floor.

Senator Elizabeth Dole, this is happening on your watch. What are you doing about it?

First I have heard of this. I wonder which "credible" anti-war news source you heard this from. You have never served in the military because you have no sense of duty, honor, courage, commitment, and are gutless. Not because of how this country treats its troops. People like you would rather run their mouths rather than make a difference.

Stupid isnt it....
Really stupid.
And no this country has never been all that great taking care of the Vets going back to the revolutionary war...
I did serve......and would do again....
and if that is the reason you didnt..it is probably best for all

Korea was not dishonorable. If you think your so smart the U.N wanted us to fight in Korea and Vietnam was to help the French. You shouldn't say you know all about wounded vets if you aren't a wounded vets. I hate people who disagree with this country but don't do anything but whine about it on yahoo answers.

The Pentagon released a statement that it was an error and it should be rescinded. I frankly do not believe this to be true and feel that the Pentagon got caught at this game and had to save grace. It is interesting how many "mistakes" the make in a year. The soldiers should be treated better than this and I blame Bush for not overseeing what the Pentagon does. If one of the generals gets out of line as someone did here he should be fired.

You'll have to come up with a source.
Combat related injuries that prevent fullfillment of a military contract do not require return of military bonuses.

Source???

You will never serve in the US military? Okay, shut up then.

Veteran<<<<<<<

most homeless are vets is not true, there is higher percentage of homeless who are vets but not the majority.

Here is a personal story about how disjointed the beaurocracy is; I was stationed in CT at New London and I wanted to transfer to a destroyer in Norfolk. I was told that I couldn't get that transfer because the Navy didn't have the money to ship my goods to Norfolk. A priority billet opened up on the USS Guam stationed in Norfolk. They sent me to San Fransisco to school for 30 days and then I met my household goods in Norfolk. Different money I was told. Transfer money no, training money yes. So I can see one part of the military doing something stupid while another part is doing the opposite. Not the President's fault.
