I remember few years ago , my boss telling me how his wife forgot to turn the oven on a 20lb turkey. They had the whole family coming over.

My big Thanksgiving disaster was when my mother-in-law asked us to come to her house for dinner. There are 5 of us. We hadn't heard from her about what time to come over so my husband called her Wednesday night. She said "Oh! I won't be here! I am going to Aunt Annette's house. Sorry. Thought I told you. Have a nice day tomorrow. I have to go and finish my pies."
Yeah, so here are the 5 of us with nowhere to go, and I didn't have a turkey or anything. The kids started to cry. I called my brother who lives near us and asked if we could all go there. He said "of course come!" So I made some side dishes and a pan of baked ziti and brought my cake and drinks.
It turned out fine in the end, but I have never left my mother-in-law to cook Thanksgiving. I have done it every year since.

Heh, my ex mother in law forgot to turn on the oven one year too! She had all the traditional sides all done. So we ordered pizza and had that with the stuffing and green beans. As for me, I made one, then we got called to my family's house for dinner. I turned the oven down. When we got home we were so tired I shut the oven off and went to bed, thinking my husband had already put it away. Four days later I wondered what the smell was, opened the oven door to make bread, and there the turkey was. Rotting and covered in maggots! I threw the entire pan away with the bird. It's funny now in retrospect.

vegan now but I have cooked many a turkey and each year there was always a minor disaster- forgetting celery- rolls etc
two that stick out in my mind
1- roasting the turkey in a covered roaster. went to remove it for carving and it collapsed into a pile of bones and meat. was very juicy and tender though!
2. had just pulled a cranberry bread out of the oven that i had spent a lot of time preparing from scratch. Placed it by the kitchen window to cool a bit. turned my back for 1 second and up jumped my cat and pulled the entire bread with his teeth down to the kitchen floor to nibble on. Needless to say we didn't serve it. Was tempted to serve it to my step grandmother who always told me I was fat.

went to a famil thankgiving one yr.and the hostest stumbled an dropped the turkey an b4 u could say,jack rabbit,her dogs jumped it an eat about 1/3,i didn't want any myself

I think I undercooked a turkey once.. it was still frozen and took hours to get it right. Luckily I started early!

undoubtedly the earthquake in 1999. i grew to become into on holiday there, in Adapazari, 2 weeks till now it befell. Insallah, no longer something like this or maybe on the component of this would ever take place everywhere.
