I've had it for about 3 days, I've not been in any type of car accident. It hurts a little when I turn from side-to-side, and some just during everyday activities (standing, walking, etc.), but not terribly.......when it's really bad if when I have to "push off" and use certain muscles, like getting up off the couch, turning over in bed, or getting out of bed. When I grab the back of my neck & squeeze it, as I get out of bed, it's somewhat better. Almost using my own fingers as a brace.....

What might this be?

Sounds as if you have strained your neck? Could also be if you have been sitting in a cool draft like driving with car window open?

You may have slept wrong and kinked up the muscles and/or you could have stress that has settled in the muscles and caused them to be sore. I have had stress give me problems like this in the past so I know how painful it can be.

Take Motrin or Tylenol as prescribed to help with the inflammation. Heat will help relax those muscles so you can use a heating pad when at home or buy the Therma Care heat wrap for the shoulder and see if that helps. I use the heat wraps all the time for various body pains I suffer with because of post polio syndrome and fybromyalgia.

Moist heat works even better so before using the above, lie in a tub of very warm water, as warm as you can stand it, and let the heat work into the muscles. A hot tub works well for this, probably more so because the jets will help massage the muscles and loosen them up. Try to stay in for 20 to 30 minutes at a time and add hot water as needed to keep the temperature high enough to benefit your body.

Having someone massage the area will take the kinks out of the muscles, something I had to have done years ago when I got so bad that I couldn't turn or twist my back and couldn't turn my head. It hurts like mad but as my mother always said, "no pain, no gain". When my brother finished, I was able to turn my head a little that day and by the next day, was able to move without hurting so much.

There are still times my back and shoulders get to hurting so much I can't sleep or move well so I lean my head on my arms on the desk or table and my husband massages the soreness out of the muscles so they relax. If you can exercise, that will help some but don't do anything too fast or too strenuous or you may end up worse off than you are now. Always use the heat first, then exercise, then more heat as the area heals.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

You should have seen a doctor right after it happened. They could have given you a neck brace, and pain meds. Any car accident (head turned or not) can give you neck or back pains. If it's been two weeks, and it still hurts, I'd recommend seeing a doctor. Try taking some Advil, in the meantime, and use an ice pack on you neck. Maybe a Chiropractor would help. Hope you feel better soon.

Neck strain. It happens to everyone sometimes. I'd wait a few days to see if it goes a way and then talk to a doctor.

Anti inflammatories help with that- but I use Chiropractic for that- the pressure you put is relieving the muscles that are torqued up because of spinal subluxation.
