The basic difference between a stock and a broth is that a broth is seasoned (with salt) and a stock is not. Broth can be made from stock but a stock can't be made from a broth.

When it comes to a vegetable stock, there's no difference.

When you're talking about meat stocks, there's a difference. A stock is made with bones and mirepoix (which is a basic mix of onions, carrots and celery) plus seasonings. A broth is from meat only.

Texture - the stock should be thicker. If you only have broth you could combine a little of it with some cornstarch and then whisk that into the remaining broth. Heat that to boiling and then reduce the heat and allow the broth to thicken.

I think they are both the same thing and the word is more a regional difference.

According to the dictionary:
broth (brôth, brth) KEY
NOUN:
The water in which meat, fish, or vegetables have been boiled; stock.
A thin, clear soup based on stock, to which rice, barley, meat, or vegetables may be added.

No difference, just two words to describe the same thing. In both cases, it's just a liquid in which various things have been simmered until the flavor is rendered into the liquid.
