4 tabs a day for a long period of time IS overuse. Diphenhydramine (the ingredient in Benadryl) can commonly cause sedation, tiredness, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, drying and thickening of oral and other respiratory secretions, and stomach distress. Diphenhydramine may also cause low blood pressure, palpitations, increased heart rate, confusion, nervousness, irritability, blurred vision, double vision, tremor, loss or appetite, or nausea. Diphenhydramine should be used with caution (if at all) in persons with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate gland), hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and
asthma.
For your own safety, I would stop using it now. Today. Just toss out the pills you have now and do not buy anymore. Don't you have a hobby, or something you'd rather do than be drowsy and sleep too much? Consider joining a gym or a club of some kind, take up cake decorating or automotive repair (not knowing you, I have no idea what you're interested in).
Bottom line, get off the drugs (yes Benadryl is a drug) and get out there and enjoy yourself.

of course it's bad! And just so you'll know Benadryl isn't addictive, so you can stop taking it without any side effects. You're just using it as a cheap (and not a very good) high. Seek help!

It sounds like your using it as a sedative instead of it's intended purpose of an antihistamine. Chronic use of any type of medicine isn't good for your body.
I only take Benadryl as a last resort as it seriously impairs my ability to think straight.

Try breaking the tablets in half. Only use when necessary. There are other allergy medicines that won't make you drowsy.
