FTP is File Transfer Protocol.
It is a way to upload files from your computer to the internet on a server and be on the internet.
You need information first of your website and FTP details which your host will gove you like:
Host address: (e.g. ftp.website.com) this is a place where it allows you to upload the files
Username and Password: confirms that you are allowed to upload files to the server if you have a correct username/password.

To upload files to the server, you will need an FTP client such as CuteFTP, where you enter the host address, username and password and can then upload the files.
In some computers you can also type the host address into internet explorer (e.g. ftp.website.com)
and windows will allow you to ftp files to the server if you give a right username/password in the pop up box.

Hope this helps!

First you need the access details: server address, username and password.

Then you should get yourself an FTP client (something like CuteFTP or WinSCP) that does all the work for you.

think of it like a remote hard drive.

you will have a login + password

or its an anoymous login server,I used www.smartftp.com for years.. and its free =)

most common use is logging on to your webspace, you just drag drop your web pages onto your webspace.. much as you would with your hard drive if you were moving/copying files
