Quite frequently when i yawn id say 1/10 times ill get a severe pain in my neck that kind of makes it cease up and wont go until i stretch it out.

Is this cramp? Or something else.

How can i prevent it

Sounds as if one in ten times you are hyperflexing the jaw joints. I suggest now you are aware of the problem, yawn without opening the mouth too far. Good Luck

It could be your top vertebrae (cervical rib). Does your neck pop when you yawn? Sometimes muscle spasms can cause it (for me anyway). If it is really bothering you go to a doctor. As far as home remedies may try taking magnesium. Or stretching. Oh and those therma care heat things are nice too. Hope you feel better.

It could be something to do with your jaw or the muscles connected to it. It sounds like a muscle pain/spasm to me, especially if you find its in a fairly specific area. If you clench your jaw alot or grind your teeth at night try not to do this or get a night time mouth guard. Maybe try rubbing muscle cream into the effected area and see if that helps, or go to your doctor if it gets worse or is becoming a real problem in your life.
