I have heard the expression backside used by adults in a civil conversation. It seems to give reference without any sexual overtone and without any comical expression.

" I took a gunshot right in my backside"

I have also used "back pocket" when I had an injury from sliding in baseball.

"The bruise is under my back pocket", gave the other person an accurate description and a lighthearted overtone.

I think the scientific term is buttocks, but Gluteus Maximus, Glutes, bottom, rear, rear end, back end, derriere, butt, bum, tush, fanny, buns, cheeks, rump, etc. can be acceptable. Pretty much anything but a $$, which, unfortunately, is my favorite :p. But to be safe, stick with bottom. It seems pretty polite and civilized.
