Yes, that's rather an old one, actually. Alexander Hislop, who wrote ''The Two Babylons'' in 1916 had great pleasure pointing out how the bishop's mitre is similar to that of Dagon. Hislop was specifically referring to the papal mitre, as any self-respecting Church of England clergyman would (see page 215). Of course, he also forgot to point out that it is identical to the bishop's mitre still used in the Church of England and the Episcopalian Church in the US. But what's a little selective research among friends?

just another STOLEN piece of culture, like Yule, replacing it with christmas (no one knows the day jesus was supposedly born, yet they pick a day that usually falls with in a week of the solstice) and the spring equinox with easter
