I don't believe in eternal torment. I lean closer to annihilation: after resurrection and judgment, whatever is not found worthy of new creation is simply destroyed and discarded so God can become all in all. Only those who are provided access to the tree of life, it seems very likely to me, receive immortality. Saying God will eternally torment most of his creation is conversely saying God will give immortality to all of his creation.
I believe God is just, people will get what they deserve, and no one deserves eternal torment. After all, why would one who committed finite sins receive an infinite, ongoing punishment? You don't get life in prison for stealing candy. As for what each unfaithful, sinful person deserves, though the biblical texts seem to support annihilation (depending on the circumstance), we will have to wait to find out. The idea that the people of God rule over the wicked, as in the Wisdom of Solomon, for example, has been quite interesting to me lately, though I’m not sure if that is how things will actually turn out.
All in all, I prefer to remain agnostic and speak quite simply of "judgment." I will let the listener decide what "judgment" implies for the wicked.

interesting question. But not all Christians or theologians see the existence of eternal torment. The Bible itself speaks of the time when death, hell and the grave are cast into a lake of fire. This is known as annihilationism. Where those who would be considered bound for hell are actually just eliminated from existence. It makes a lot of sense and has scriptural support. Of course with everyone interpreting the bible their own way to support their own theory just makes it more difficult to truly study or discuss the subject, If God is in fact who He claims to be, why would he need to torture those who fail in faith? It is like a weight lifter stomping on a 2 year old. So I can not say HE is sitting with a sin swatter waiting to make humanity PAY PAY PAY for their humanity. But let me post script this with one fact. I am not God.

Actually, God made a Way so that no one has to go to eternal torment. The Way is to receive salvation through the Savior Jesus. He died on behalf of you. All you have to do is accept the Gift, and then you don’t have to go to hell. God loves you.

There are but two places to spend all of eternity. Heaven is reserved for those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. God said that when you make His suffering on the cross the payment for your sin, He would be satisfied. Otherwise, Hell is your only other option. There is no middle ground. If you have not received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, right now, where you are, admit you are a sinner deserving to be sent to Hell for your sins. Ask God to allow the death of Jesus Christ to be the payment for your sins. He suffered, the Just for the unjust, that you might be saved.

Our Lord and Savior doesn't choose to send us there. We were all destined to go there until He came Himself and provided a way for us to enter into Heaven and be with Him. We are given the choice to either obey what is written and enter into His presence, or to be disobediant and face the consequences.

I'm with God on that. If you absolutely refuse to let him pay your sin debt for you then you should know you're going to pay it yourself. If there was no punishment for wickedness God wouldn't be the perfect, righteous God that he is, and you would actually have something to complain about.

God is just... in the end, there will not be any debate. if you reject the blood of the son of God, in my estimation, you deserve eternal torment.
