Happiest Thanksgiving to you, Sister-in-Christ
Peace also with you! :-)
To explain what I heard in a church sermon once, the poor rely on God for their needs. That's why they are more compassionate to give to the poor.
I know that you know that are rich people who give and donate; you just are wondering it's more poor people doing it
It's like some others say, that the poor people been there and done that. They appreciate whatever they get (well, a lot of them, anyway).
Something about being poor makes them rely on God, and eager to please. It's not to say there's not any middle class or rich people who rely on God. John Schneider is a rich Christian and he deserves far more recognition than most other celebs. But it's just poor people have worn the shoes of being poor and struggling.

My work (fine artist & writer) puts me in contact with many men and women "of means." I donate a $1500 painting and the wealthy people bid on it and give the money to charity for a tax deduction.
There are a few who give to benefit those less fortunate. There are other rich folk who give generously ... for the tax deductions. Still more of the wealthy believe that all of the poor are lazy, good-for-nothings who just don't have the chutzpah to get a high-paying job, manage their cash flow, choose the best stocks, diversify their portfolios and grease the palms of the "right" politicians.
They don't understand why, if the poor don't have enough to eat, they don't just spend some of their beer money on take out. I've been told by billionaires that all the poor have to do is go to a food bank if they run out of food, as if they think a "Food Bank" is "a financial institution - only with food in it!"
They know SO LITTLE, that they can't grab the slightest little clue that a "food bank" is simply a room in the back of a church with a few shelves stocked with pork 'n beans, powdered milk and 3 year old cereal somebody had in their cupboard and donated to the food drive.
It's NOT open 24 hours. It's open for 2 or 3 hours a WEEK, and if it's across town, and you can't walk there, (because transit costs $3 ... one way) then the POOR DON'T EAT THAT DAY! I remeber younger days as a "starving artist" when I ate corn flakes for breakfast, lunch and supper so I could afford nutritious meat, vegetables, fruits and grains for my little girl as she was growing up.
The reality of life for the poor in this country is OBSCENE. The fact that human beings who are NOT living in a third world country but actually reside only a block away from us, go to bed hungry every night ... it''s just horrendous!
More and more people are finding it impossible to feed themselves GOOD food. No wonder obesity is a national epidemic! Every time you eat a plate of Kraft dinner, you pack on another nutritionless pound. Multiply that by 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Anyway, I'm thankful there are people like you, who ask questions like this.
Peace to you too, Debra.
Katherine

The rich, and the corporate-right (Both Democrats and Republicans belong to this Corporate Right, from Romney to Clinton are guilty) have made people believe that They are Christians, when in fact, they hate everything about Christ and what HE taught. They take a few comments of Paul of Tarsus, put them under a microscope and out of context, and ignore the entire Sermon on the Mount, the Cornerstone of Christianity! We can NOT be happy, while there are still Poor among us! We must not rest.
These ultra-rich have one God, that is money. This is why, if you sit around the fireplace, waiting for the dividend Checks to Come in, you pay a Maximum yearly Tax of 15%!!!! While those of us that work, either Academically like me, or Physically like my father (a Carpenter) did before retirement, you pay well over 30%. ... It's absolutely absurd that they lowered the Bush family Taxes down to 15% claiming to help those who are "saving up for retirement," while America's saving is in the negative numbers for the first time since 1929. (Just before the Great Depression, which my grandmother, at 90 years old, remembers well)
This is why I always find Older Priests, because they remember walking side by side with the Unions, and Rallying for Peace and Equal Rights for Blacks, while the younger Priests have been corrupted by the so-called Religious Right, which is definitely not genuinely Religious and certainly isn't Right.
Because as God said, you can't serve both HIm and Money, those of us in the middle-class, are more likely to give of our little wealth, and of our time (At Soup Kitchens every Week, and Driving our Elderly Neighbors to Church, or the Eucharist to Them) in Service to our Hive. (Community) The Ultra-Rich are Leeches on our Society, and the Generation that's passed recently knew this. It was a lesson their children didn't learn, but Grandchildren did, but forgot when they lost their morality in the 80s. Many of the Jesuits still remember what is Good and what is Not.

It has always been proven that those who have less or who has nothing at all are the ones even more generous than the rich or the upper class...only because of the strength of faith they have, the hope they hold onto their creator, the belief that the more you give, the more you receive and that is is a must to give 10 % of the tightings to help the church,,and the sentiviity of the poor goes for the poor because they know how it is to be poor....and for the rich, they are so much preoccupied of adding more to their wealth, that their faith is turned into materialism..the worship of money instead...~~~and for the hope that life becomes better for them and not giving it back to the glory of the Lord.........

Blessings to you for a grateful heart. It's true that there are many poor or working poor people that help the needy. But there are also many wealthy people who help behind the scenes. Guess where much of the hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships come from so that poor or aspiring students could have a chance at becoming great scientists, doctors, writers and more to better our society? We sure do have a lot to be thankful for. God bless.

There are few truly rich people so think about this, if someone like Bill Gates donated 1 billion dollars to be give to the everyperson in the United States, everyone would only get 4 dollars each, so you can see, that won't help much. And there is a whole world of poor people out there. You must teach people to help themselves.

Because the striving after money has made money their God.
The lord said " It will be easier for a poor man to enter into the kingdom of heaven then a rich man"
But, i also know some extremely rich people who donate a massive amount to charity. Money isnt their God, money is a means to help others be all they can be. God keeps blessing these wonderful souls because money isn't their God, but him!The one's i know are all believers and followers of Jesus Christ. Oprah is amazing! She gives a 3rd of her wealth away to the needy. She loves the Lord and is a christian.

People with to much money begin to get greedy. They are blinded with their love of money, so you can forget them actually donating their dollar bills. I've never heard that poor people donate more money maybe your referring to middle class? They arn't rich, but they arn't poor. Poor people would definetly want to keep what they get for themselves because they'll need it for food, rent clouthes etc. People with a smaller yearly salary begin to see how problematic it can be to lack money at times thats why they are more compassionate for the poor and those unfortunate. In some countries opportunity is dime, but thanks to this great north american contenant now everyone can take a shot at a million more then once. The reson i say why poor do not donate to the poor is because i was once poor living in a poor community. We cared much for those who were troubles, but we had our own problems to take care of that is why i say we kept it for ourselves. i wouldn't give somone my breakfast or dinner back then because we had our own mouths to feed at home with what little that was.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too. The same disproportionate giving appears to have been with us since at least the time of Christ. Remember the parable of the giver? and this?
# 2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
Perhaps not having makes a person more conscious of those who have less than they have. Or perhaps riches simply harden the heart.

1) there are less rich people so they would need to donate more to make up for the population difference
2) because poor people don't wear shoes
