Maybe because it wasn't prepared for us ..
Let's take a look at Jesus statement in matthew25:41 "Then he will say to those on his left,'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire"PREPARED FOR THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS"..Jesus makes it clear who hell was meant for , it was never meant for us ..It's only ours when you choose it to be ours
moses & cain, probably never imagined anyone rejecting God..so therefore did'nt speak much about the matter... And God leaves that choice open to each one of us to this day..He doesn't send people there they choose to go there when they reject His free offer of salvation...Hope this helped you my friend ! great question! take care ...Leah..

There are 2 deaths, a physical death and a spiritual death. You are spiritually dead whenever you don't truly trust Jesus as your Saviour and Lord.
When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge, not only did physical death become possible but at that time they became spiritually dead and therefore hell was possible.
Also, we are not told in the Bible every word that God spoke to humans. For example, before the Mosaic Law, there is no word of God telling people to sacrifice animals. Yet Cain, ABel & later Noah clearly knew that that was what they were expected to do.
As somebody has already mentioned, Dueteronomy mentions hell, and that was written by Moses probably around the same time as Genesis, Exodus, leviticus and Numbers. So people in the world at that time would have known about hell, maybe not as clearly as we do now that we have the rest of the Bible, but definitely knew something about it.

The Bible is consistent from Genesis to Revelation -- the penalty for sin is DEATH, NOT eternal life in hell fire! Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it is otherwise. That is a completely concocted idea from misunderstanding of the Bible.
As you already stated, God told Adam that the penalty for sin is death.
God told the Israelites in the wilderness the same thing:
Deuteronomy 30:19 -- I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
It is reiterated in the prophets:
Ezekiel 18:4 -- "Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die. (Again in verse 20)
And it is confirmed in the New Testament:
Romans 6:23 -- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And what death is God talking about? Is it only the death of the body? No.
Hebrews 9:27 -- And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
1 Corinthians 15:22-23 -- For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
John 5:28-29 -- Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation {better translated: judgment}.
Revelation 5:5 -- But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished.
Revelation 20:12-15 -- And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
No one can be condemned until after they have been judged. After people are judged, if they have not overcome their sins, then they will be cast into the Lake of Fire, which is the second death, from which there is no resurrection.
Revelation 20:14 -- Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Re 21:8 -- But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Jesus said, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy BOTH SOUL AND BODY in hell {better translated: Gehenna}" (Matthew 10:28).
Gehenna is the metaphor that Jesus used for the Lake of Fire, and the second death. Notice that both body and spirit (a.k.a. soul) are DESTROYED there. Once destroyed, they can never be restored to life.
But,...
Revelation 20:6 -- Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Revelation 2:11 -- He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death." '

Hell exists, but Hell is nothing more than the common grave of mankind and it is going to be emptied of all those in it. Revelation 20:13. Hell is going to be cast into the lake of fire, the second death. Now, how can you cast a place of torment into a place of torment? What would be the purpose in that? It's symbolic. Hell the common grave of mankind will be emptied and death will be no more in God's righteous new system of things, so, casting Hell into the lake of fire, the second death, symbolizes the eternal destruction of Hell, it will no longer exist just like everything else cast into the lake of fire.
