I have received an e-mail today from a christian claiming to be able to logically prove why i should believe in god. Here is part of it:
Message: im afraid your not thinking rationally my friend, please explain how man got on this earth in the first place? why are we limited, i.e we cannot even create a single man! forget that we cannot even create a monkey or an animal and give it life.
also the earth has been created, if you use your brain here, please tell me how the earth got here in the first place? has it always been here? well then why is it that the earth orbits the sun 365 days, 24 hours a day. if it created it self why does it not change, why does it not go UP and DOWN?
Is education so lacking that we churn out people with such limited understanding of the world around us?

itofine I assure you I did not write this myself.I could give you the persons name and you can e-mail him yourself. It is hilarious though that it is so ignorantly thought out that you would think I wrote it myself. The poster in question asked a question yesterday three times in the same "logic" if that helps you believe me.

And to follow it up,he just sent me this little gem:
"if the earth made it self...then it can destroy it self, split itself in half....go millions of miles away from the sun or go right into the sun! so why does it not, if you say gravity, then what is making the world stay in one place, why not back and forward?"

I am sorry. But yes, the public is that bad - and few take education seriously. A quarter of Americans apparently can't pinpoint their own country on a map or say that the earth orbits the sun. 4 in 10 think the earth is less than ten thousand years old and the human species is even younger. Is it any wonder that the preachers are pushing "intelligent design" and winning by emotions alone?
I'm hoping that the test groups were merely drunk or drugged up when asked to demonstrate what they've learned, and are not completely deficient in the thinking department. Good sheep make great sweaters...but not much else.

Some people have no brain.
I had an equally stupid e-mail last week from a guy who claimed to be an american minister of a baptist church.
quote
"If god didn`t exist, then how do you think we could have killed all those indians and japanees with such little lose of our soldiers life. Look at how god is getting rid of all those muslim b.... "
These sort of people are seriously mentally challanged, and we should feel sorry for them....!!

That and all these kids skipping school or falling asleep in class which doesn't help anything. Scares me to think these same people will be the main generation of the world if they aren't already.

There are definitely a lot of good logical points to be made as to the existence of God, but these certainly aren't them.
Despite my basic agreement with that person as to the existence of God, it is sad to see someone acting so self-assured when they come off so stupidly!
Yes, ignorance is rampant. It's worse than you think.

Oh, Yes!
I used to allow e-mails and was flooded with tripe like this.
Ignorant people should not be allowed an e-mail account :) There should be a test and any answer with god in it automatically excludes one from the privilege.

I'm a Christian, and they lost me after "please explain how man got on this earth in the first place."
And there is seriously NOTHING that bugs me as much as when people put "your" instead of "you're." Except for maybe when they put "loose" instead of "lose." I learned the difference back in first grade! HOW do these people not know the difference?

Yes. Yes it is.
I know a Christian who was home-schooled. He tries to debate religion with me.
Needless to say, I always leave him stomped and bewildered. But then, he can't even spell more than one out of every three words that he uses.
*sigh*

I think the person who sent you this message lives in the 1400's. All of these questions have been answered already. I get a kick out of messages like these, but at the same time I fear for their children.

I have read a number of books on creation and evolution and I believe that no one has been able to come up with hard evidence in direct support of either, especially evolution.
A number of experiments have been devised and observations made in an attempt to prove evolution, but these have have either been misinterpretted or faked.
The evidence used by Creationists to prove the supernatural origin of all things may have been interpretted by opposers in alternative ways, but this is just theorising masquerading as proof.
Ultimately, we can all argue till we are blue in the face, but until we are forced to change our minds by external events (physical destruction of most of the earth if God doesn't exist or the end of evil and anyone who holds onto it if he does exist), we can only use the testimony of higher authority to make that change if we wish.
If we test God in a way that pleases him (by asking him to bless us and guide us to him) we may find ourselves changing our own minds because we have felt and acknowledged him in our lives. Of course, we have to be wiling to accept his will and not necessarily that of people.
This isn't much of an argument, but I hope it's candour will make some think. This web site is a good source of further information and you can request a free, no-obligation home Bible study course to suit your needs if you change your mind.

Well, you call him ignorant, and he calls you ignorant, and you are both ignrant of the the other's point of view. Fortunately we have freedom to believe as we wish so we need to believe what we do in all good conscience, and respect the other's right to do the same.
