Could it be another link from more ancient beliefs?

12 Disciples = 12 constelations of the zodiac, that Jesus travels around with, Jesus being the sun.

Christians are worshipping the sun, just be another name.

Brilliant observation. I'm seriously glad you decided to bring this up for others, namely Christians, to see.

Just further evidence that Christianity and Judaism are just as deeply linked to the occult as modern Paganism.

I hereby bestow upon Christianity the "Pot Calling the Kettle Black" award.

The number 12 is suggestive of wholeness: the twelve tribes, the twelve months of the lunar year, the twelve signs of the zodiac; etc. There is a mandala-like quality of wholeness suggested by the four sides of camp formation arranged by the four compass points, with three tribes on each side—three in turn being the smallest number of real multiplicity, or plurality.

Sounds like someone who wrote those parts of the Bible had an obsession with the number 12.

12 apostles + Jesus = 13
12 signs of the zodiac + the constellation Ophiuchus = 13

Ophiuchus is the 13th constellation, even though it's not generally recognized as one, but a small part of it crosses into the ecliptic (the path in the sky where the sun, moon and planets travel).

Pagan beliefs (which were brought into the bible) believed in the power of numbers. 12 is like a number meaning "whole" or "complete". 40 in the bible just means a really long time.

No, that's silly. The number seven occurs a lot too in Judaism.

Twelve is important because it was a nice round number. It has nothing to do with the zodiac.

You're correct, Jesus is the SUN of God... the 12 represents the zodiac, or in parts could refer to the months, are you feeling enLIGHTened?
