Cooking your turkey in a cooking bag doesn't usually take as long as conventional times. There should be instructions on the box the bag came in. If you don't have the box, then figure on 20 minutes per pound plus 30 minutes extra for the stuffing. So, for a 17 pound stuffed turkey, you're looking at around 4.5 to 5.0 hours at 325 degrees.

Ray,
First I must ask: Where did you get a cooking bag that will hold a 17# turkey? Wow!

Okay, the back of the box or container of cooking bags will have a cooking guide to help you decide. You will need to check on the turkey by inserting a meat thermometer into the thigh. When it's 160 degrees, you can remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest at least 15 minutes. You can rest the turkey up to an hour before you begin to carve it. It will continue cooking, so that will make it hot enough.

For a 17 lb bird in a bag, without stuffing, my instructions say 2 1/2 - 3 hours 350 temp setting. The temp reading should be 180... Does this sound right?
